Defined Benefit Plans - 2009 Solvency Relief
Previously, in response to the unprecedented decline in the capital markets in 2008, The Pension Benefits Regulations, 1993 (the Regulations) were amended effective September 11, 2009, to provide temporary relief from solvency deficiency funding for sponsors of all defined benefit plans. The period for electing that relief was with respect to actuarial valuations with a review date between and including December 31, 2008 and January 1, 2011. That period for electing relief has now expired.
