The Securities Division of the Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority (FCAA)
protects investors by regulating trading in securities in Saskatchewan. Securities are forms of investment such as stocks, bonds and units in mutual funds.
In administering The Securities Act, 1988, the Commission protects investors through the following activities:
- registering individuals and companies in the investment industry;
- reviewing documents called prospectuses by which businesses sell their securities to the public;
- requiring businesses to file regular financial information, send it to their security holders and disseminate it to the market generally;
- where appropriate, exempting businesses from the main requirements, and penalizing those who have not followed the provisions of the act, or who have engaged in fraudulent and unscrupulous practices.
In carrying out our mission of investor protection, we are careful not to impose needless restrictions on business.
Across Canada, investors are protected by the securities law of their home provinces and territories. The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) ensure consistency in the capital market from province to province by developing common securities laws and policies. The Commission is a participating member of the CSA.
