Pensions – The Pension Benefits Amendment Regulations, 2017
September 1, 2017 – Effective August 25, 2017, the government has amended The Pension Benefits Regulations, 1993 to introduce a new regulatory regime for certain pension plans and make other miscellaneous amendments.
The Regulations, as amended, introduce the term “limited liability plan” (LLP). LLPs are defined benefit pension plans which are subject to subsection 40(5) of The Pension Benefits Act, 1992 (the Act), but do not include Specified Plans (see section 36.7 of the Regulations for a definition of a Specified Plan).
